Gudrun’s Tights 1st Birthday Giveaway! (closed)

Hip, hip, hooray! Gudrun’s Tights is 1 today!

I have so enjoyed writing this blog for the past year and getting to meet so many of you wonderful readers. Blogging is one of the greatest joys of my life and it is all because of you! I do enjoy writing about books and my literary obsessions and might do it regardless of a response, but knowing that I am writing for people who actually read what I write and support my efforts is such a pleasure.

So thank you, thank you, thank you for making this year at my little blog a very happy and fulfilling one.

Birthdays usually involve presents, don’t they? Of course, they do! So I’d like to offer a present to one of my fabulous readers in celebration of my blog birthday. I have a couple of items to choose from:

The postcard set includes 100 postcards of authors published by Penguin Modern Classics. Some of the authors included are D.H. Lawrence (very handsome), Virginia Woolf, Jean Rhys, and Truman Capote. They are simple, chic, black-and-white photos and would look wonderful displayed in a work area or even framed.

The second choice is a brand-new copy of Some Tame Gazelle by Barbara Pym. Pym has become one of my favorite authors (my review of Excellent Women is forthcoming) and if you like funny, quaint, charming domestic fiction she is the author to read.

The giveaway is open internationally – just leave a comment below to enter and tell me which of the two presents you’d like if you win!

Entries will be accepted from now until Tuesday, May 1, 11:59 pm, PST and the winner will be randomly chosen and announced on Wednesday, May 2. One entry per person, please.

Thank you very much for reading, friends! Here’s to another year of blogging and friendship!

Anbolyn, I just want to say congratulations on Gudrun’s first birthday, I’ve really enjoyed visiting you and seeing a wee bit of your life. Please don’t put me in for the giveaway, even although I’m very tempted. I’ve already read Some Tame Gazelle and I really like that new cover. You know I’m hoping to downsize soon – so I’ll have less wall space to display the things I already have framed! I’m looking forward to many more of your birthdays.

A very happy blog birthday! I always look forward to your posts – and I check back to follow the discussion in the comments. I’ll put my name in for the Barbara Pym. I read her years ago – I’ve seen reviews on different blogs that make me think I need to give her another try.

And I know I said I liked the orange decor, and I did – but I like the green even better!

Happy Birthday! O love your blog…I too have started reading again as a result and am thoroughly enjoying the journey. For now, I take suggestions from my daughter, it’s kind of a nice bonding thing to read what she reads and then we can talk about the books and life! I have also suggested a few of your “reads” to her and have expanded her horizons too!

Happy birthday! 🙂 I’d love to win the book of postcards, I always wonder what authors look like, if they don’t provide a photo on the inside of the cover.

Happy Blog Birthday! This is a tough decision….I do want to read some Barbara Pym, but I think I’d have to go with the postcards. I’d love to frame some of them!

Sappho, spelled (in the dialect spoken by the poet) Psappho, (born c. 610, Lesbos, Greece — died c. 570 BCE). A lyric poet greatly admired in all ages for the beauty of her writing style.

Her language contains elements from Aeolic vernacular and poetic tradition, with traces of epic vocabulary familiar to readers of Homer. She has the ability to judge critically her own ecstasies and grief, and her emotions lose nothing of their force by being recollected in tranquillity.
